HP Pavilion G6-1A69US Review and price

What’s Good: HP’s laptop series gets upgraded to the Pavilion brand with the addition of a new processor. The Pavilion G6-1a69us is the latest version of HP laptops offering users something more.

What’s Bad: The laptop’s CPU is the same as that of last year’s, plus the battery life is very unsatisfactory.

To Summarize: People looking for a great value for their money now have something to choose from. It is a smart choice because this version is an improvement from the one that came out last year. The previous version was available for a price of $500 and contained a Pentium T4500 CPU. The design is newer and more attractive. Also the price range is lower and much affordable. However, the downside is that the graphics and CPU in this version have not been upgraded.

HP Pavilion G6-1A69US laptops

Overview:

Cost: The price of this laptop ranges from $549 to $589. However, it is safe to say that the bottom price is well under $600.

Size: The laptop is 1.2-1.4 inches tall, 14.7 inches wide, 9.7inches thick.

Design and Features: Weighing around 5.3 pounds, the laptop comes in light and dark shades of plastic grey. The keyboard differs from the usual HP Pavilion type. The size of the arrow keys is minimized with no sight of media control buttons anywhere. Making things more confusing is the fact all the keys along with media functions have been mixed together. The addition of a very elegant looking touch pad is unexpectedly pleasing. A simple rectangular box with two elongated mouse buttons underneath engraved right into the wrist rest make scrolling easier and much more fun.

The screen’s resolution stands at 1,366×768-pixel with an LED back light. Missing from the body are extra ports and connections like USB 3.0 and Bluetooth. Built in however is a DVD burner with LightScribe technology.
Improving the version that came out the previous year HP has enhanced the system to be fully Pavilion branded with an Intel Core i3 processor to make the system stronger.
HP’s decision to add some preloaded software in to the system has caused a slower boot time.
Review: The latest in the series of HP laptops, Pavilion G6-1a69us combines a very effective Intel Core i3-380M dual core processor with 4GB of DDR3 memory making it the ideal choice to use when handling different kinds of programs. A hard drive of 500 GB is sufficient enough to save all kinds of files such as applications, media or data.
Playback and recording of all CD and DVD media is made easier with the inclusion of a DVD burner with LightScribe technology. The image quality is acceptable unless you move away. The image gets distorted when the subject is further away. The sound emitting from the Altec Lansing speakers was surprisingly low and not much different than other laptops. Several color options are available for users to choose from.

Conclusion: HP Pavilion G6-1a69us though affordable with some notable changes has nothing significant to offer. The CPU is old, the battery life very poor and many remarkable things are missing from the laptop.

HP Pavilion dm4-1165dx feature and Specifications

If you’re looking for a light laptop that doesn’t sacrifice screen real-estate for a lighter load, then the 14-inch HP Pavilion dm4-1165dx ($779.99 list), a Best Buy laptop, might be what you’re looking for. Combining a solid feature set with great battery life and good media performance, this mainstream laptop should rank high on your list.

Design

HP has started to integrate aluminum casing into their laptop design. The dm4-1165dx’s aluminum casing stands out from other similar aluminum-clad systems, like the MacBook Pros ($1,199 direct, 4 stars), with its unique laser-etch design. The pattern flows on the exterior and palm rest of the dm4-1065dx, similar to the dm4-1173cl ($900 list, 4 stars). The dm4-1165dx also weighs the same as the dm4-1173cl at 4.3 pound, and is minutely lighter than the Asus U45Jc-A1 (4.7 pounds).

The 14-inch widescreen has a 1,366-by-768 resolution, standard for its class. However, if you want to bump up your pixels while still maintaining a 14-inch size, the HP Envy 14 ($1,286 direct, 4 stars) has a 1,600-by-900 resolution, but it will cost you.

The keyboard is full-sized and in the chiclet style, each key an isolated square. The touchpad is an all-in-one, where the buttons are integrated. HP’s touchpads have been known for their jumpy nature and this one is no different. I found that the one-click touch navigation method helped resolve the issue.

Features

The HP dm4-1065dx comes with all the standard connections: HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA/USB combo port, 5-in-1 media card reader, and headphone and mic jack. There’s also a dual-layer DVD drive. As an added security bonus HP also included a fingerprint reader. Like the Asus U45Jc-A1 ($867 street, 4.5 stars) and Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 ($1,049 direct, 4 stars), the dm4-1165dx comes with a nicely sized 500GB hard drive, but the dm4-1165dx’s drive spins at a faster 7,200rpm.

The dm4-1065dx is fairly clear of bloatware, there’s the designated eBay and HP Games shortcut, but other than that the trialware is minimal. Instead HP put up a designated dock with a link to the Download Store where customers can choose to purchase the software they want.

This system also goes beyond including your standard 802.11n Wi-Fi, with Intel’s WiMax and Wireless Display. WiMax allows you to have a 4G connection in any of the 54 cities that have erected WiMax-designated towers. Download speeds ranges from 2-5Mbps, allowing you to surf the web comfortably, provided you pay the $40 monthly fee. The Wireless Display or WiDi feature allows you to connect your laptop wirelessly to your HDTV, it’s like having an HDMI input without the cable. However, you’ll need to purchase the Netgear Push2TV ($100) receiver in order to complete the connection.

Its Dolby Advanced Audio pumped out the kind of audio you would expect from a laptop. The speakers are good enough for watching the occasional YouTube video, but anything beyond that you’ll want to put on headphones or get a set of external speakers.

Performance

The laptop’s 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-450M processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM took the stage, allowing the dm4-1165dx to score well on our multimedia-oriented tests. It came out near the top on our Handbrake video encoding test, lagging only 3 seconds behind the HP dm4-1160us (2 minutes 52 seconds). It did well on our Photoshop CS5 test (5:11), beating out the Core i3-powered Asus U45Jc-A1 (5:46) and Core i5-equipped HP dm4-1160us (5:18). On our PCMark Vantage test (6,061) the dm4-1165dx again bested the Asus U45Jc-A1 (5,361), but lost out to the Lenovo Y460 (6,452).

Being that the dm4-1065dx has integrated Intel GMA HD graphics, it’s no surprise that it did not fare well on the 3D tests, like our 3DMark06, scoring 2,137 at 1,024 by 768 resolution and 1,908 at native resolution. It could barely eke out a score on out Lost Planet 2 DX9 test and couldn’t even play our Crysis DX10 test.

For the mainstream laptop class, the dm4-1165dx’s 6-cell, 55WH battery did well on out MobileMark 2007 test, scoring 6 hours 7 minutes. Comparably, it did better than the HP dm4-1173cl (5:48) and dm4-1160us (5:30), but fell short against the 9:27 score of the Asus U45Jc-A1.

Good battery life, a solid feature set, and good performance are staples the HP Pavilion dm-1165dx offer. Adding WiMax coupled with its light weight make it a solid choice for mobile users who don’t want a smaller screen. As an everyday laptop, the dm4-1165dx is able to handle your everyday and multimedia tasks. If you want longer battery life and 3D graphics performance, for only $88 more, the Editors’ Choice Asus U45Jc-A1 is still your best bet.

HP Palm Topaz, Opal Tablets Leaked

Hewlett-Packard is going to launch the webOS 2.0-based HP Palm Topaz and Opal tablets, according to Engadget’s source.

The Topaz is nearly identical in size to the Apple iPad, while the Opal is a bit shorter and wider than the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Opal will have a 1,024 x 768-pixel display, and the Topaz will most likely have the same resolution.

The tablets will support multitasking that enables up to 20 apps to run simultaneously and will have access to “tens of gigabytes” of cloud storage space. Other known features include Tap-to-Share, which “lets users easily transfer a website, document, or song from the phone to the tablet (or vice versa) simply by tapping the two devices together,” Beats-branded audio, and a wireless charging docking station that can transform the device into a GPS device, alarm clock, or digital photo frame.

The Topaz will reportedly ship about three months before Opal. HP’s tablets are expected to be officially released on February 9.

Source

Update: The Topaz has a 9-inch display, whereas the Opal sports a 7-inch screen. Both tablets will reportedly include a 1.2GHz processor, a front facing camera, and three speakers. Leaked slides reveal that theOpal will be available with Wi-Fi only and with Wi-Fi + 3G.

“We’re told that units will start to arrive at Palm HQ in June as production ramps up for launch later this year – a timeline backed up by an internal marketing slide we received that lists WiFi-only, AT&T 3G, and Verizon LTE versions of theOpal arriving in September 2011, and on AT&T LTE in July 2012,” Engadget reports.

HP Prepares first webOS Tablet

There have been plenty of rumours surrounding the webOS Tablet from HP, but as of yet there has not been anything concrete as to what we can expect from such a device and more importantly when it is likely to appear on the shelves of the retailers.

However, that has all changed now, following the announcement from the BMO Capital Markets analyst, Keith Bachman, who has managed to meet up with several Asian tech sources and discovered in the process that OEM Inventec the company rumoured to be building the webOS Tablet will be getting ready for shipping soon.

If this is true then it points to an early 2011 launch, possibly even next month, but the more realistic launch date would be March 2011!

HP’s New Printers Will Print From iOS Even Without AirPrint

Starting in November when iOS 4.2 drops, we’ll finally be able to print directly from the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad through AirPrint. At the beginning, AirPrint will mostly only work with printers shared on your network, but eventually, AirPrint-certified printers will appear that can sense nearby iOS devices out-of-the-book.

In the meantime, though, we’re going to have to settle for some printers kludging iOS printing… namely by assigning each printer an e-mail address to which documents can be sent for printing through your iPhone or iPad’s built-in Mail.app.

HP’s just announced three such printers: the HP Envy e-All-In-One, which will cost $249 and do the whole smorgasbord of home printing duties including printing, copying and scanning; the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus, an all-in-one office inkjet with wireless connectivity; and the HP PhotoSmart eStation, which costs $499 and is capable of printing photos of up to 9600×2400 dpi, and comes with an optional (blargh) Android tablet.

They’re all attractive printers, and they are all technically “AirPrint-compatible” in that when AirPrint rolls down the software update pipeline, they’ll at least be shareable from your Mac. If you want a truly AirPrint compatible printer, though, best wait for a spell longer.

Microsoft to vaporize CES 2011 with more tablet prototypes

Every years We have been delighted with Microsoft advanced technology demonstrations at CES and every year Microsoft overblown assertion that its new hardcore envisions will set the rule, but as usual, those heavenly matched technology only worked for Microsoft and its employees, none of those promises reached the market and end up labeled as VaporWare, next year is not the exception, Microsoft is ready to show the world how their Windows 7 or 8 Slate PC or tablets are or will be better than the iPad or Android-based offers.

Microsoft is said to be launching or demoing its crop of hardcore slate pcs to take on the iPad and there’s not doubt that this time is for real as Microsoft has miserably failed to match the iPad, as usual, Microsoft must be planning to depend on partners to do the job, but every year those same partners over promise and fail, remember the Origami Project, a vaporware device class launched to fend off the iPhone, remember the Slate PCs from HP and others, those are resting in peace and while HP is launching a high price Windows 7 tablet for the Enterprise, it will dedicate its resources and time to launch a tablet loaded with its WebOS.

Microsoft strategy is a mess, showing and demoing devices is the way they will capture market traction, cheaper Android based tablets are being launched every week and this situation will make a lot more difficult for Microsoft that it won’t be only fighting the iPad for marketshare, it will be fighting a whole universe of Android based tablets worldwide, the iPad will be a slightly headache for Microsoft, Android will rip it apart.

I don’t know why Microsoft is always opening the CES Show, why are we seeing a more consumer friendly company with real consumer products on the market, Microsoft is an enterprise-wise company and they haven’t delivered anything they have shown on the CES floor, Surface? This is a placeholder or hubby device.

New HP Envy 17 3D Laptops First Look

HP Envy laptops are known for its ravishing designs and powerful features. The second generation of the Envy lineup is popular and it just has all the incredible qualities of Envy series like sleek and compactness with high end features all these are available at very reasonable price. Now, HP is soon going to release their next Envy laptop HP 17 featuring 3D.

The Envy17 includes a Blu-ray drive and has the following ports HDMI, USB 3.0 port and Display Port outputs. Though HP Envy 17 features 3D it has XpanD glasses with TriDef 3D software and so instead of the powerful Nvidia 3D Vision HP has chosen a different path by using XpanD glasses. The TriDef software has many shortcomings which are discussed in the performance section.

Design

The Envy 17 3D is like the same as non-3D version. It looks very sleek with aluminum and magnesium chassis but it is not light to carry around but very hefty. It is very wide and can occupy a big part of your desktop. The Envy 17 3D has a backlit keyboard with a big clickpad. There are subtle patterns of imprinted square over the wrist rest and also at the back of the lid on the Envy laptop. The make of the laptop is good with good feel and durability. It is also fingerproof resistant.

The keyboard is of island style. The keys are flat topped and generously spaced this is quite common in current laptops. The numberpad is present at the right so the keyboard tray is big with keys present wide apart so the typing is easy. The clickpad has striking resemblance with Apple’s version.

Features

* Dimensions: 416.6 x 274.3mm
* Weight: 3.3kg
* Display: 17.3 inches
* Resolution: 1920×1080 p
* Processor: 1.6GHz Intel Core i7
* Memory: 6144 MB
* Hard drive: 640GB
* Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850
* Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium
* Price: $2,734.88

The HP17 3D has a big display with resolution of 1,920×1, 080 pixels with High definition screen makes it apt for to watch Blu-ray and HD content. HP now has joined hands with Beats audio so with the special bass software and hardware the music sounds really nice with ample clarity. The music sounds better with Beats headphones. Even in 3D the display is bright and clear but it has issues with off axis viewing. The 3D glasses don’t have power button and it automatically turns on when the display has some 3D content on. The HP Envy 17 has 4 USB ports and one SD card reader. There are options like Ethernet, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi for connectivity. It has Blu-ray combo drive. With Blu-ray drive it was unable to play 3D Blu-ray with the pre loaded TriDef software but it played on CyberLink PowerDVD. The game’s had to be launched through TriDef wrapper application.

The Envy17’s performance is as good as Intel Core i7 laptop with an Intel Core processor 1.6GHz Core i7 720QM. With the latest processor it has to imagine it slow but definitely it wont be the preferred for multi tasking. The Graphical card used is AMD’s Radeon HD5850 is definitely adequate for a high resolution gaming up to 1920×1080 pixels. When we played at resolution 1920×1080 pixels at 88.9frames per second and if we use the 3D system it would move at 30 frames per second. It is perfect for gaming but as far the other aspects are concerned it lags behind. The Envy 17’s battery life is also not so great in battery test it lasted for 1 hour and a minute so it has to be charged frequently. It includes one year warranty on parts and labor.

HP TouchPad Tablet Specifications with the WebOS

HP Touchpad is a tablet in size from 9.7 inches diagonally (by approximation we can speak of a 10 ” tablet) XGA 1024x768pixel screen resolution and capacitive technology to multiple points of contact (multitouch). The diagonal and the resolution of display are the same the iPad for Apple, so that the size of the two tablets are very similar.

The HP TouchPad hardware is center on the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform of dual-CPU version clocked at 1.2 GHz The two ARM processors are able to support fully and efficiently multitasking user experience that rivals that of the common PC.

The built-in graphics accelerator allows you to play, even if we do not know with what framerate and with what level of detail. HP showed a demo of the Armageddon Squadron II game and know that there is a version from Angry Birds for WebOS. Staying on the theme of digital entertainment, certainly the most interesting feature is the presence of a decoding engine compatible MPEG4 video formats and H.264. It means that the HP tablet is capable of playing HD movies, maybe enjoying the sound from the speakers signed Beats Audio.

From the information gathered by fellow Americans, we learn that HP TouchPad will be distributed initially only in a version with WiFi connectivity, the model will come equipped with 3G modem later in 2011. Even without mobile broadband connectivity, however, HP Touchpad will manage calls and SMS hooking onto the Palm smartphone.

Between HP TouchPad and Palm smartphone is a perfect symbiosis in fact favored by the latest generation of Touchstone technology: SMS can be read and accept calls directly from the tablet, you can exchange links by touching the two devices (so-called “tap”), and more.

Many sensors available, useful for saving power, for better and more intuitive to use or play: ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, the TouchPad has nothing to envy to the best-stocked Android tablet. Will also feature an A-GPS receiver, but only on the TouchPad 3G, the reason one can easily imagine when one considers that already combines Qualcomm 3G modem and GPS receiver on his Gobi.

In the presentation made himself a quick mention of accessories, including highlight HP Touchstone a stand or music stand that is able to feed over the air (wireless charger) TouchPad: just place the tablet on the stand to recharge!
