Sony Bravia KDL46EX500 LCD TV's Review

With the Pro Bowl now just a memory and the Super Bowl staring us right in the face, you’ve still got some time left to get your hands on a new television ahead of that biggest of games (at least as far as football goes). Thus, this week, we’re going after the low-hanging fruit, the most abundant of models–and often the least expensive–the LCD television. We kick off our week with the Sony Bravia KDL46EX500, which is going to really impress both you and anyone you have over for the big game.

The Sony Bravia KDL46EX500 is a forty six inch 1080p LCD television that offers Motionflow 120Hz technology to cut down on blurring by bumping the frame display rate up (most televisions operate on a sixty hertz cycle–Motionflow ups that to one hundred twenty), LightSensor technology to change the brightness level based on conditions in the room, Ambient Sensor systems to change other settings to match conditions, the Bravia Engine 2 image processor, two ten watt speakers with simulated surround, 24p True Cinema display mode, a variety of video modes, four HDMI ports, two component inputs, two composite inputs, a PC input, a USB port, and an optical digital audio output.

I’ll say right off that I found the picture on this one pretty impressive, especially for an LCD television. Granted, it’s no 3D LED, but it’s still pretty nice indeed. It’s also somewhat dismaying to see that there’s no internet connectivity here, which is steadily becoming more of a requirement. But still, this plays equally well with old and new hardware, and is great for someone trading up from an old television.

The going price for this one (or so I found at four different places) is eight hundred ninety eight bucks, which is a little on the healthy side for a forty six inch television, but still mostly in line.

If you want a big, impressive new television for the Super Bowl, take a look at the Sony Bravia KDL46EX500, a television that should keep you front and center on the action.

Sony’s new TV can give two pictures to two viewers

Sony has recently announced the development of a technology called dual-view, which allows two different viewers to see two different images.

I suppose that this could be used for when two different viewers want to watch two different shows, but they will have to wear headphones so they don’t hear each each others’ audio.

It would appear that Sony wants to market this for gamers. So if two people are playing a game with a split screen, the screen would not have to split.

At a recent press conference, where Sony showed off this technology, the company warned that “this will make your eyes hurt”. Clearly, some more development is required. Until then, the results are like 3D.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo review, feature and specs

Sony Ericsson has recently announced a mobile phone, called the XPERIA Neo. Couple of months back, there was a news that the mobile phone manufacturer is bringing two new handsets called Anzu and Hallon. The former one was renamed and announced as Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc, but there was a speculation about the later one, which is supposed to include the similar form factor of Vivaz. Now, there is end of all such speculations as the handset is named as Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo and it will be available in the market by the month of March, 2011.

The similarity of SE XPERIA Neo with SE Vivaz ends with the form factor. The functionalities of the phone are of higher standard and you can clearly understand that once you go through the detailed specifications in the following portions of the review. The phone definitely looks cute and attractive. It may not be as dashing and high-end as Samsung Galaxy S II, which is also announced during the same period, but it definitely has its own sets of appeal. The handset fits well on your palm and you will surely like its semi-anodised finish along with easy to access key arrangement at the front and superb front facing camera. The cool ear piece and light sensor adds up to the benefits of the device.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo – Easy Handling of Control Keys
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo
The quality of the sensor is definitely much better than the usual VGA hardware devices that are available in plenty these days. Apart from that, the other furniture of the phone is nicely arranged as well. You can easily access the power or lock key in the right side of the phone, irrespective of the big screen display. Right under it, you can access the volume key to control the sound. In fact, you can easily adjust the volume by holding the phone to your ears.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo – Different Ports

The built of the phone is quite sturdy like the other handsets by Sony Ericsson. SE XPERIA Neo looks strong with its plastic and chrome type covering. You will find three ports in the mobile phone for diverse functionalities such as mini HDMI out connection, 3.5mm headphone jack and a microUSB connection port. It is expected that Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo also loads a cable to support functionality of its HDMI port so that you can stream high quality High Definition movies directly on your television screen.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo – Display and look

The display of XPERIA Neo is a big highlight. The size of the screen is quite big at 3.7 inches and being a LED backlit LCD capacitive touch screen, it is going to provide a superb experience to the users. The colour visibility of the phone is 16 millions and its resolution is 480 x 854 pixels. It also loads the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine, which ensures the experience of watching movies or videos over the phone will be immaculate. Other major highlights of the display includes scratch resistant surface, multi touch input method, proximity sensor for auto turn off, accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, and Timescape™ UI.

The appearance of the phone is minimal, yet it is attractive. On top of the display and the back of the phone, you will notice the logo of Sony Ericsson, while the major functional keys (‘back,’ ‘home,’ & ‘menu’) are at the bottom. Right below these keys, you will find the label of ‘XPERIA,’ while you have camera lenses at the top of the front and the back of the handset.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo – Storage and camera

The storage capacity is very crucial for the smartphones because the number of features and applications are quite high. XPERIA Neo is a sophisticated smart phone and hence it needs good storage capacity and Sony Ericsson does not disappoint in this aspect. The device is equipped with a 320 MB internal memory and a microSD™ card slot that can load memory up to 32 GB. As the internal memory is not big enough, the phone comes with a 8 GB memory card that will be included within the package.

Do you want to know what the biggest highlight of the phone is after its excellent display features, then it has to be the camera. SE XPERIA Neo loads an 8 mega pixel snapper that is capable to click images at 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution along with high end features such as LED flash, auto focus, touch focus, geo tagging, face and smile detection and video calling. The features of the camera are no less than a decent digital camera. It can also record high quality videos at 720p @30 fps with video light and continuous auto focus. Therefore, the experience of both still photography and video recording is awesome.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo – Music and Video

If you liked the excellent features of XPERIA Neo’s camera, then the other multimedia features like music and video players will also impress you. The music player can play diverse music files such as MP3/ WMA/ WAV/ eAAC+; while there is a video playback that can stream MP4/H.264/WMV. There is Stereo FM radio with RDS for added advantage to the music lovers, while you can connect the handset to the TV via HDMI port to enjoy HD quality video on big screen.

CES 2011: Hands on: Sony OLED 3D headset review

The third and final one of Sony's 3D prototypes at this year's CES is the futuristic-looking 3D headset concept.

The headset packs two 3D OLED displays, both with a high-definition resolution of 1280x720, and it's super impressive.

Indeed, it's one of our favourite products from this year's CES show – maybe second only to the Blackberry Playbook.

It's not a commercial product yet – it's just a tech demo. But there's no denying that it's one of the most awesome implementations of 3D we've seen so far.

The headset itself is quite heavy, but the 3D effect is brilliant, and the picture is crisp.

We watched various video clips as well as 3D footage from Gran Turismo 5 and it was all spectacular.

There was a fantastic sense of depth to the images, and the fact that each eye had its own individual HD display so close-up meant there was a perceived sharpness that was missing from Sony's lenticular OLED TV and BD player prototypes.

Frankly, if you gave us the choice between staring at a big 3D TV with active shutter glasses and donning one of these badboys, we'd choose the headset every time.

The perceived screen size seemed the equivalent of watching an 80-inch display from around 15 feet away, so there was certainly a very cinematic feel to the experience.
